Here's What BikeLakewood Is All About

Our goal is to promote safe and enjoyable cycling here in Lakewood, Ohio. We’re organizing the effort that will make our Lakewood a great place to bike, by marshaling the considerable energy, talent and enthusiasm that exists right here in our hometown!

Lakewood is already a great place to bike. Within a mere 5.6 square miles we enjoy a wealth of destinations you can reach by bike in just minutes. Restaurants, shops, Lakewood Public Library, City Hall, the new YMCA, our neighborhood schools, the Metroparks, Lakewood Park, Winterhurst, the Beck Center, downtown Cleveland and a variety of other places you surely will want to visit or live nearby. Not to mention over 56,000 neighbors. And by the way, just for the record, when you’re biking around Lakewood you’ll also save money, burn calories, and be kind to our environment.

But there are issues. Despite that Lakewood was first settled by people who barely had access to motor vehicles, Lakewood today does not serve its cyclists with the same enthusiasm as it serves its motorists. Not even close....

BikeLakewood was founded in July of 2006 by a handful of individuals dedicated to Better Biking in Lakewood. We're bringing together Lakewood organizations that can help: Lakewood City officials, area businesses, civic organizations, developers, and especially you, the residents of Lakewood. We want to make Lakewood the Northeast Ohio destination for bike-minded people.

As you peruse our web site you will see that we’re already making progress. In conjunction with City Council, the administration, and avid cyclists, we're considering a "shared bike lane" through Lakewood. We've also made the city well-aware of the pressing need for more short-term bike parking ("bike racks") throughout our city. And you can use this site to help you learn how to bike safely in Lakewood (or anywhere).
