Grate Expectations! Apparently Lakewood still has some of the older sewer grates that can be hazardous to cyclists. That's the bad news. The good news is that the City will replace them with better grates. In early September, a BikeLakewood enthusiast spotted three hazardous grates, two on Marlowe, one on Madison. All were marked "Madison Foundry" but some of the markings were almost obliterated. They were immediately reported to the City, and one week later the hazardous grates had already been replaced with grates that will not potentially catch bike tires and topple cyclists.
